Why do some people admire Latin American cultures but not want to be from or live in those countries?

Life is just better in the West. The traffic is horrible, the noise never stops and I will repeat myself, the crime. Terrible crime.

Did you know it’s normal over there to work 6 times a week like 10 hours per day? I love my heritage but in the West I work 5 times a week 40 hours, including lunch. It’s also normal to have 10, 20 minutes lunch.

I love Latin America, I grew up there but have to admit quality of life is better in the west. There are laws that protect the workers and it’s all together more comfortable, less crime too.

I’m wondering about attachment and transference with the therapist and the idea of escape and fantasy? How much do you think your strong feelings, constant thoughts, desires to be with your therapist are a way to escape from your present life? I wonder if the transference serves another purpose than to show us our wounds and/or past experiences, but is a present coping strategy for managing what we don’t want to face (even if unconsciously) in the present—-current relationships, life circumstances, etc. Can anyone relate to this concept of escape in relation to their therapy relationship? How does this play out for you?

Nah, I’m better far away from all of that. But I really do love it there, as a tourist.
